Working together for a fair and thriving tenanted sector

The Tenant Farming Advisory Forum (TFAF) brings together tenant, landlord, and industry representatives to discuss issues affecting Scotland’s tenanted farming sector.

Whether you are taking part in local decision-making, caring for local places, or exploring new ways of using or owning land, we provide guidance to help you navigate the process with confidence and clarity.

What the forum is

The Tenant Farming Advisory Forum is a cross-industry group that supports communication and collaboration between all parts of the tenanted sector.

The forum:

  • Provides a regular opportunity for discussion between organisations representing tenants, landlords, and professional advisers
  • Advises the Tenant Farming Commissioner on emerging issues
  • Helps identify where further guidance, research or codes of practice may be useful
  • Promotes a culture of fairness, understanding and shared problem-solving

Who takes part

Membership of the forum reflects the range of interests in Scotland’s tenanted farming system.

Regular participants include:

  • National Farmers Union Scotland (NFUS)
  • Scottish Land & Estates (SLE)
  • Scottish Tenant Farmers Association (STFA)
  • Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)
  • Scottish Agricultural Arbiters and Valuers Association (SAAVA)
  • Scottish Government

Purpose and focus of the forum

Tenant farming plays a vital role in Scotland’s rural economy and heritage. The Tenant Farming Advisory Forum helps ensure that policies, codes and guidance shaping the sector are informed by real-world experience and balanced representation from everyone involved.

Meeting several times a year, the forum provides a shared space for open discussion and practical problem-solving. It helps to:

  • Build trust and collaboration across the sector
  • Identify workable solutions to common challenges
  • Strengthen communication between all those with an interest in tenanted farming

Topics are shaped by emerging issues raised by members and the Tenant Farming Commissioner.
